--- You stand in the line just to hit a new low, You're faking a smile with the coffee to go...
Whenever Lexi needed a quick pick-me-up she'd come to Starbucks. Sure the coffee wasn't the finest quality in all of the world, but at least it could make her feel better when there was nobody she could vent about her problems to. These days, she couldn't vent like she used to, she was too afraid of getting caught for killing her boyfriend.
"Hey, can I get a tall Caramel Mocha to-go?" Lexi asked the employee at the Starbucks counter quite forcefully.
The kid had spiky hair dyed in various neon shades and a couple of piercings and maybe a tattoo, definitely NOT her type. She thought she heard him say something that sounded like, "Yeah, sure, whatever..." before walking slowly over to brew her mocha.
I don't have all day to wait for a stupid mocha! Lexi thought, adjusting her jacket sleeve. There had been some awfully crisp weather lately, which was highly unusual for this time of year. Lexi was fine with the colder weather, as long as the wind didn't mess up her lovely hair. Before she had killed him for cheating on her, Kyle would playfully joke around with her about the little things like that. Lexi held back a tear, stuffing the memories into the back of her mind.
"Tall Caramel Mocha to-go!" the guy behind the counter called as the machines stopped buzzing. Oh God, Lexi was flustered.
"Oh, that's mine." Lexi managed to say, grabbing the Styrofoam cup and turning to leave.
She had barely anytime to notice a CAUTION: WET FLOOR! sign signaling a recently mopped spot on the floor. Lexi tripped slightly, in a hurry to get out of the Starbucks. Her face was red with embarrassment, seeing as she almost sloshed scalding hot coffee onto her new jacket.
"Dammit!" she whispered to herself, as she brushed herself off, I sure hope nobody saw that... she thought, pretending to smile when all she wanted to do was cry her heart out.

I'm not in love! This is not my heart! Tyson was running away. As far as he could from the school campus. Because he didn't like what he saw behind him- that whole group of preps that was still after him... He swore they were trying to either 1) murder him or 2) use him as a boy toy until they could murder him. Either way was pretty bad.
Tyson stepped into the Starbucks with a sigh of relief and a few dollars in his pocket. Good, he could actually afford something. Stepping up to the counter, he wondered what exactly he wanted. As the guy asked what he would like, Tyson absently said, "German white chocolate, thanks." He was wondering if the group was still at his heels. If they weren't here by the time he got and paid for his drink, he was pretty sure they'd never show up.
As he was waiting, Tyson looked around. He suddenly saw a girl who almost tripped. She looked pretty embarassed, and he turned his back to see if his coffee was ready. It was. He paid for it quickly and then turned back around. The girl was still there. Quietly, Tyson walked over to her. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked quietly. Tyson didn't speak up a whole lot due to his huge past loss. And huge was the truth. Tag; Lexi Words; 250-300 ish Music; About A Girl (The Academy Is...) Status; done! Notes; --

As Lexi was collecting herself from almost tripping on a particularly slippery linoleum floor, partly due to her ignorance of the "WET FLOOR" sign, she heard some random guy in jeans and a t-shirt come up to her and ask if she was okay...not cool, so not cool at all. Lexi could only imagine what would happen if that mortifying story got into the senior Yearbook. YIKES! First, she almost spilled her caramel mocha down the front of her jacket, second, some desperate guy was now attempting to hit on her or something of the sort.
The kid probably wanted to look cool so people could think he had a decent date. After all, how often is it that the average guy can approach an amazingly hot girl at a Starbucks without being forcefully pushed away by a horde of sleazy paparazzi snapping with their cameras as many times per second as they could manage to make some quick money off of the photos, or even a tall, muscular security guard with dark sunglasses, a can of mace and a radio attached to his belt?
"Yeah, I'm one-hundred percent fine, honestly..." Lexi scoffed, attempting to get away from him before adding, "...and if you're trying to flirt with me --- I hate to say that you're failing at it, miserably!" Lexi probably would have said something nasty, but that would just make her seem like she had anger issues...which, in fact truly she did. She rolled her eyes at him, hoping that she could possibly stroll back to campus without someone nipping at her heels like a puppy dog.

I'm not in love! This is not my heart! Tyson wasn't the kind of person people would call normal. Of course, he doubted anyone at Barrington was. But, people called him gay. It was like second-nature for everyone to look at him like a cute little gay boy who they could feel sorry for. But he hated that- Tyson wasn't gay. He never had been. And he was pretty sure he never would be. But the fact that so many people thought he was triggered nasty comments and such from lots of people, which didn't help his situation.
That, and the fact that those preps wanted to murder him.
And Tyson didn't know what he'd gotten himself into here. Really, he tried to be a nice guy, and he tried to come across as straight... It just never seemed to come together. He couldn't be himself. As the girl spoke, Tyson's quieter side got the best of him and he diverted his gaze to the floor. What was wrong with him? What was he doing that made him so unlikeable to all the people here? Tyson wasn't sure whether to apologize or stand up for himself. Of course, he never stood up for himself. Not anymore. Last time he'd done that, he'd narrowly escaped the mass murder of his whole family.
Shylt, he looked up at the girl, a bunch of his hair falling in front of his face as he did so. He just stared for a second, frozen. Finally, he spoke out for himself. "I'm sorry, really... I just, you know..." He never got a chance to finish. He was such a loser, and he knew it. Tyson just couldn't handle the truth, that was the whole problem. But he just never could convince himself that it was alright to be the real Tyson Alonso again, the one that wanted to bask in the limelight and perform. He just wasn't the same. Lexi didn't really care that the kid was sort of upset at this point, it didn't matter to her in the least. She'd probably never see him again anyway, and if she did she'd just ignore him...sort of like what she was doing to him now, actually.
The guy's messy hair was hanging limply in front of his face, his gaze fixed on the sidewalk below his feet to avoid eye contact. Who really would care if one guy got majorly dissed by a girl he didn't even know? Truth was, Lexi had dissed, dumped, even killed guys before, so she didn't feel any sort of sympathy at all now for the unlucky person that happened to be on the receiving end of her mean-spirited comments. Dishing out insults seemed like the simplest thing in the world these days, Lexi had gotten used to it, even. She never really cared about how anyone else felt, and tried not to care. She had her own problems to attend to, others problems could pretty much wait. If anyone needed help, they could go ask someone who actually cared about what was going on.
"Bye then," Lexi said, sipping her mocha nonchalantly. She knew that his guy would probably continue to babble so that the Preps wouldn't kill him on her command. Lexi was the queen of the Preps, and practically the entire school, after all.

I'm not in love! This is not my heart! Tyson didn't have a great feeling about this. After he'd realized-- just now-- that she was one of the head preps, he wondered if she knew what was going on with him and the others. If she was a part of the plan to kidnap/rape/assault/kill or whatever they were trying to do to him. He didn't even know why; they just hated Tyson (who they called the 'cute little gay boy').
And for what reason? He wasn't gay. He wasn't annoying. He never did anything. He was just... Tyson. He'd realized she was ignoring him and he wished he could apologize, but the girl just wasn't listening. And Tyson would never say anything back; that may just cost him his head.
That was, until he got a sudden mind to be the old Tyson again. It happened pretty quickly and disappeared just as quickly. "You don't get it, do you?" As soon as it came out of his mouth, Tyson knew he was screwed. He really regretted saying that... It was just, spur of the moment. Now he wanted to run again. He was too good of a person for this. Too shy, too smart.

"You don't get it, do you?" he had said, and now the words were drilled into Lexi's mind, etched into her head, as if carved with a knife, the truth was, she didn't get it.
She didn't get why she had stabbed Kyle to death a year before now, what had possessed her to kill him. She didn't get why she hadn't felt guilty enough to turn herself in for murder yet. She didn't get why boys had to be such jerks...especially this guy that was following her, what made him want to be instantly nice to her, just because she almost tripped leaving a Starbucks coffee shop. Why did he feel that he had to help her out? It's not like she needed emergency medical attention, like she had been stabbed in the chest and was bleeding profusely to death, she had just gotten a little flustered, that was all.
Lexi realized that there was nothing in life that people could understand perfectly. Every second of a lifetime is like attempting to completely solve a puzzle when one tiny piece has been missing out of the box. Nothing seemed to ever really have an exact reason for occuring. Things just occur, and then life moves on, but the events stay there in your memorie. You're forced against your will to re-live the bad ones, and the good ones slip away from your grasp before you ever notice that they've come to you. Life's just like that. A puzzle.
Pretending to have not heard a single word the guy had told her, Lexi was about to walk away before whispering softly, "You're right, I don't...", and that was the truth.

I'm not in love! This is not my heart! Tyson was afraid that had come out a bit too boldly. Well, he was more than afraid, he was deathly scared that now he would be murdered. He'd just tried to stand up to one of the biggest names at Barrington High; him-- Tyson Alonso. And it was only after he said it that he realized just how much hot water it could possibly get him into.
But imagine the shock on his face when she didn't slap or scream at him. In fact, she seemed to just completely change at a moment's notice... Tyson had never seen anything like that before. Going back to the Tyson he was now, he said quietly, "Umm... Are you okay?" He felt kind of bad for what he'd done. He'd completely changed the way she was acting and he wasn't sure if that was good or not. Either way, it made him feel kind of bad.
Part of him, too, was relieved. He wasn't going to be killed today. Not yet, anyways. Not knowing what to do next, though, Tyson let his gaze drift back to the ground. Through his curtain of bangs, he added quietly, "I think I should go..." But he didn't move, not yet. He wanted to make sure he wasn't wanted here. This guy was both strange and annoying, and also an open window for Lexi to realize what exactly she had done in the past few years. This wasn't a matter of being rude to look like a popular, glamorous girl anymore, it was more a matter of realizing that she had done some pretty crappy things in her life. Killing her boyfriend was at the top of her list.
Lexi felt choked up inside of her throat. "Yeah, I'm fine, idiot," she retorted before letting a minuscule droplet of a tear flow down her cheek. Part of this was anger, that this kid wouldn't leave her alone, part of it was regret. A feeling that Lexi never thought that she'd show on the outside. The outer shell, armored Lexi, was sassy, and a bit bitchy, while the inside Lexi could be bitchy when she felt like keeping her inside feelings bottled up. The real Lexi on the inside, the raw and jaded Lexi, however, was regretful, angry at her boyfriend and angry at herself for murdering the person that she had loved more than anyone else on Earth.
Lexi still couldn't figure out why she had been so infuriated when she found out that Kyle had been cheating on her. She still couldn't figure out why life wasn't set in stone, like prophecies lead you to believe. For once, Lexi briefly browsed over the consequences of murdering another human being. Jail, maybe without parole, she didn't know. A lot of kids had probably gotten away with murder before, so she ceased thought about going to jail. Nobody knew that she had committed this crime, except for herself. She had given the police a well-worked alibi. The basics: that Kyle had been drunk and had gotten in a brawl with a stranger who was equally, if not more drunk. Lexi had covered up her wrong-doing, and she had never mentioned a word about it to anyone, not even to herself outloud, so that she wouldn't have a chance of being overheard. Now, Lexi thought, she might have to explain all of this to some person that she hardly even knew.
Lexi knew that her jigsaw-puzzle just crumbled back to its original state before her eyes. She was having to sort out the pieces of the puzzle, starting with the outline, carefully flipping over the cardboard to see if two could magically interlock.
A while after the first tear, another one felt like it was about to stream down her face, but she managed to hold it back. --- W.C. : 429 Notes: COMPLETE! The biggest W.C. I've ever had!

I'm not in love! This is not my heart! Tyson was more or less confused now. Did she want him to back off and leave? He couldn't understand. He never could read what a girl was trying to say; it was much too difficult for him. And this... Well, this was one more reason he wasn't popular among most of the student body at Barrington. He was half outcast, half wannabe-rockstar... And it didn't come across as 'popularity-master'.
Tyson stood there, unsure what move he should make next. "Umm... you want me to go? Cuz... I mean, I'm in your way, aren't I? Sorry... I just.... God, I can't even talk." What he wanted to say was, Dammit, if you were easier to read, maybe I could help you. Inside, Tyson was still who he used to be. But nothing ever came out that way-- it was all contained within the confines of his mind. He was shy and untouchable on the outside, but on the inside, he just wanted to be normal. He wanted someone to care about him like he saw in the theaters.
Not knowing what else to do, Tyson took the first sip of his coffee. But it was very bitter, reminding him of why he was at Barrington and why he was such a changed person. He was so much more bitter himself. More so than anyone would have ever thought he could be. But death had a metamorphosizing effect on people, one that changed more than just how they spoke to people. Tyson didn't trust everything anymore. And he took nothing for granted.
